Commercial Recycling Requirements

California law requires businesses and other public entities to recycle as much of the waste they generate as possible.AB 341 requires that businesses that generate four cubic yards or more of commercial solid waste per week or are multi-family residential dwellings of five units or more arrange for recycling services.

If your business fits into this category you must do one of these:

  • Separate and self-haul your recyclable materials
  • Subscribe to a recycling service
  • Arrange for pickup of recyclables
  • Donate recyclable materials
  • Compost or otherwise divert organic waste
  • Require tenants to source separate their recyclable materials
